The Learning and Development Department of Hunter Douglas had me as their Display Specialist from 2019-2024. The focus of the department was to train people to sell, install, and repair blinds, and my responsibilities were wide ranging in support of this goal. At our location in Broomfield, I managed a wood shop, a display warehouse, and a video studio.
The wood shop was used primarily for the creation of displays, which I was responsible for designing based on project leader’s needs. The displays ranged from portable tabletop showcases, to large rolling training centers with on board lighting and power. While most of the work was for the training team, we also fulfilled requests for marketing campaigns and company wide conventions. Perhaps my largest task was designing, building, and shipping a product showcase that visited 10 towns in 10 weeks, with 20+ rolling product displays and 11 training displays.
Managing the 100,000 sq ft. warehouse consisted of shipping, receiving, and storing the many different displays and training modules, making sure they were repaired and readily available whenever needed. I also kept inventory of the collection, ranging from large convention shows to displays for live virtual training courses, and made it available for all departments to use.
Built within the warehouse was the Learning and Development video studio. Training videos, virtual classes, product updates, and even live virtual conventions were filmed and streamed here. I was in charge of building and maintaining the sets for these videos. This included sets of home interiors, a large white cyc, and interview lounges for informational shoots. Being the only studio on the Broomfield campus, many other department would utilize the studio and our sets for marketing photos, sometimes requiring quick alterations to existing sets to meet their needs. We tried to reuse set pieces as much as possible, but the nature of training and marketing for hundreds of different products requires new scenery to be built regularly.
